Are you letting yourself be seen?

We all wear multiple masks. We wear them for fear of rejection. We wear them to conform to versions of ourselves that we feel society will accept. We wear them to fit a role or protect ourselves in social situations. Hiding who we are behind a façade helps us cope, helps us manage. But this also prevents us from being us. And in the midst of trying to be a perfect copy of something we’re not we forget one very important thing, we’re already a perfect version of ourselves. So at what point do we remove our metaphoric masks? This idea of unveiling your true self is not meant to shed light on what you hide but rather to celebrate the person behind the mask who has been dying to live! Because to remove that mask and truly be seen can be the most liberating experience. It’s looking into another’s eyes and seeing complete acceptance and acknowledgement. But most importantly it’s about accepting who we are so we can live the best life possible as our true selves. This year’s TEDxPortland theme is unique, personal, and relatable. It’s about you. About celebrating who you are and knowing that you’re enough.

You’re a secret worth unveiling.

Speaker Packet

The speaker packet is a guideline from TEDx and TEDxPortland for the speakers that are asked to make a talk that inspires and is correlated with the associated theme.

The guidelines help the speaker how to operate on stage and train them to make a “talk” and not a speach.
